SCAN-Harbor serves three of New York City’s most impoverished communities: Harlem, East Harlem and the South Bronx. Our South Bronx communities of Morrisania, Highbridge and Mott Haven have been characterized by the Citizens Committee for Children as the very highest risk communities for youth in New York City.
The children and families in these communities face overwhelming odds.
Deeply entrenched problems — from poor education and unemployment to domestic violence and substance abuse — often lead to a strong sense of hopelessness.
At SCAN-Harbor, we recognize and foster the strengths inherent in every individual.
We believe that every New Yorker has the right to a quality education, adequate health care, a safe home environment, and gainful employment. Our goal is to provide the skills and support necessary to help our participants realize a positive and productive life!
To that end, we offer a wide range of programs that empower young people and their families, including:
- After School Programs
- Youth Mentoring
- Youth Leadership
- Youth Employment
- Early Childhood Education
- Dropout Intervention
- College-Bound Support
- Street Gang Outreach
